Roots Restaurant Supports Green Philosophy Through Commitment to Local Vendors

Signature restaurant features local produce, naturally raised meats, sustainable seafood and eco-friendly dcor at San Franciscos greenest hotel

(SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.) - March 26, 2009 - Roots Restaurant, located on the lobby level of the citys first green-from-the-inside-out Orchard Garden Hotel, offers hotel guests and locals a fresh, exciting downtown dining experience.

As the signature restaurant in the Orchard Garden Hotel - San Franciscos first hotel certified by the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System from the US Green Building Council - Roots focuses on serving the freshest locally sourced products whenever possible as well as naturally raised meat and sustainably caught seafood.

Chef de Cuisine Jason Gaskins menu reflects seasonally available products and currently includes an always vegetarian Farmers Market Soup; Local Petrale Sole with Rainbow Chard and Roasted Red Peppers; Flatiron Steak with Butternut Squash and Bacon; and the ever-tempting Hand Cut French Fries with Parmesan, Garlic and Truffle Oil. Prices range from $7 to $25 on the lunch and dinner menu.

The dessert menu offers a delicious selection of treats which also change seasonally such as SMores Latte Dark Chocolate Mousse with Graham Cracker Ice Cream and Toasted Marshmallow; Blueberry Croissant Bread Pudding with Toasted Pecans, Dark Chocolate and Blueberry Whipped Cream; Caramel Cake with Sea Salt Caramels, Citrus Caramel Sauce and Whipped Cream; and an assortment of mouthwatering ice cream and seasonal sorbet flavors. Prices range from $5 to $7. A fine selection of Port, chocolate cocktails and dessert wines is also available.

The bar at Roots is a cozy place to meet friends or business associates and offers a wide selection of wines, spirits and beers, many organic and biodynamic in nature. Each day from 4 to 7pm guests are encouraged to enjoy a complimentary happy hour appetizer with the purchase of a glass of wine or cocktail.

The 56-seat restaurants soft dcor in tones of fresh green and buttery yellow offers a stylish yet relaxed dining atmosphere. Light maple tones, white linen-topped tables, gold limestone floors, whimsical wall sconces, space enhancing mirrors, and a custom bronze screen of contemporary leaves (designed by local artist Archie Held) enhances the natural and artistic feel of the room. A semi-private dining area within the main dining room seats up to 14. Roots dcor supports the hotels green efforts by offering carpet pads with 100% recycled content and low emission material, maple wood furniture certified by the Forest Stewardship Council Forest Council and energy efficient lighting.
