Our Chef

Jason Gaskins

Roots Restaurant
The Orchard Garden Hotel, San Francisco

Jason Gaskins joined Roots Restaurant in 2007, dedicated to
continuing its promise to serve fresh, local and organic cuisine.
A long-time member of the ‘green cuisine’ movement, Chef Gaskins
believes that buying ingredients that are locally grown and raised is better for both the diner and the environment. His menu features
 vegetarian and vegan items,
along with sustainably raised seafood and meats.

An Arizona native, Gaskins is a self-taught chef, honing his skills while he rose up the ranks.  Before joining Roots, Chef was a regular  at the infamous Bohemian Grove catering to the wealthy elite in Northern California each summer. Chef Gaskins recently appeared on the Food Network’s ‘Hippie Gourmet’ and in December, 2009 his Wild Mushroom Tamale Pie dazzled readers of Clean Eating Magazine.  Early in 2009, SF Weekly readers named Roots Restaurant ‘Best Organic Restaurant.’
